Faith in Her: Dynamic Roles

By Dr Leonora Alberts-Vilakazi

Despite their vital contributions, women in leadership are frequently misunderstood. Assertiveness is mislabelled as aggression; strategic firmness is mistaken for coldness; and a commitment to standards is misconstrued as being difficult. Beyond these everyday workplace double standards, many women face far deeper challenges—ranging from professional bullying and covert discrimination to spiritual abuse, domestic pressures, and systemic violence.

Spiritual and emotional abuse, whether encountered in community spaces, domestic settings, or corporate environments, attempts to undermine a woman’s core identity, agency, and voice. Yet, time and again, women demonstrate extraordinary endurance. They absorb the pressure, dismantle the barriers, and continue to show up for their families, organisations, and communities.

Dynamic Roles: “Faith in Her”

The Visionary Leader: Driving progress, making tough decisions, and holding space for accountability in professional and community environments.

The Nurturing Mother: Balancing ambition with empathy, instilling values, and ensuring the safety and emotional well-being of the next generation.

The Anchor Sister: Offering solidarity, mutual aid, and unyielding support to peers navigating similar trials.

The Wise Aunt: Serving as a mentor, trusted advisor, and protector within the broader extended family and community network.

The Resilient Catalyst: Turning systemic obstacles and personal trials into fuel for personal growth, advocacy, and lasting change.

Standing Strong and Moving Forward

The strength of a woman leader is not defined by the absence of hardship, but by her refusal to be defined or broken by it. Standing strong does not mean standing alone; it involves cultivating resilience through clear boundaries, self-advocacy, and mutual support.

Reclaim the Narrative: Refuse to adopt labels assigned by those who mistake strength for hostility. Define your leadership style based on integrity, purpose, and impact.

Build Safe Alliances: Surround yourself with mentors, peers, and trusted advisors who recognize your worth and provide safe spaces to process challenges.

Protect Spiritual & Mental Well-being: Recognise signs of manipulation or abuse early. Disengage from toxic dynamics that demand the sacrifice of your dignity or peace.

Lead by Example: By standing firm in your power, you pave a clearer, safer path for the sisters, daughters, and colleagues who follow in your footsteps.

Women continue to lead, build, heal, and excel not because the road is easy, but because the purpose within them is far greater than the obstacles before them.
